Is this just this one performance because they were going to have actors, or are the sing-a-longs canceled too?

Re: Fox Cancels Once More With Feeling Showing
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 10:10 AMIt sounds like the problem was that they were performer a version of the episode without permission or payment for using the script and ideas. That's different than small theaters across the country playing the actual episode. I know the theater that hosts Buffy sing-alongs here mentioned something about trying to get a Xena thing going, but they couldn't get permission. Which would indicate to me that the official sing-along episodes have been negotiated for such a use. Perhaps if CP had gotten permission to do the live performance beforehand it would've been acceptable.

Thu, October 11, 2007 - 10:12 AMOk, I just answered my own question. It was all of the sing-a-longs. Grr. What is Fox's deal?! There is a petition to renew the license.

Re: Fox Cancels Once More With Feeling Showing
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 12:18 PMwow, I wouldn't have gotten that from the original article you linked to at all. it was a pretty vague blog entry.
for those who are interested, here are some additional sources that say the theatrical usage has been shut down due to legal issues with distributing TV in movie theaters:
nymag.com/daily/enterta...ffy_singa.html
uncoolkids.com/buffy/
whedonesque.com/comments/8547
it looks more of a legal problem of existing laws being outdated and insufficent to deal with modern circumstances. perhaps they will resolve it. afterall, it's just another opportunity for fox to make money on a show that would otherwise be dead.
thanks for sharing the news here. :)
